Twisted, braided, pinned - 3 perfect knot hairstyles!
The Oktoberfest is about to start and after the dirndl choice you have to ask yourself which hairstyle suits you best. To make the look perfect, every traditional costume simply needs a braided or knotted hairstyle. A braided ponytail is still the non plus ultra in the traditional costume world. Even beyond the festivities the braids have become very popular. Since Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones and Lagertha Lothbrok from Vikings at the latest, not only sweet girls but also tough heroines want more of the knot technique. We have put together the three best braided hairstyles according to the latest trends. Since our variations are a bit more demanding than you might think, some of you probably need some helping hands. For this reason, plan in a friend who can help you if you're feeling desperate. We can probably all do the classic Plaited Braid, but of course we're not satisfied with Basics.
No matter if you want to drink beer or conquer the world, here are our top 3:
1# fishbone plait
Brush your hair! For this we need a knot-free base. We have shown you the exact steps for our version of a herringbone plait in the illustration. Looks similar to the classic, but works quite differently. Use the first layer of the top hair and bind it together with a small, preferably transparent, elastic hairband (Step 1). In the second step you flip the braid over once, i.e. you split your hair over the hairrubber and pass the thin braid through this hole one time. Repeat this process with the next hair strands until all hairs in the plait have been used (Steps 2-3). Now we take our hairs always from the lower part of the plait and guide them in front of the plait to flip. Repeat until you reach the hair ends (Step 3-5). To present the braid even more casually and voluminously, you can now pull out the hair a little and open it up or pull out a few hair strands loosely.
2# flipped knot
First of all you have to brush your hair again and then tie a loose ponytail in the neck (step 1). We flip it around completely, as we did with the "wrong" fishbone plait (Step 2). As you can see in steps 3 to 4, we move the plait around until the entire hair length is knotted. We lead the ends of the hair upwards and fix them (Step5).
3# cord plait
For this we need, as always, a knot-free base. As the name suggests, the finished version looks like a twisted cord and especially with fine hair it looks very voluminous. For the cord braid we start with a high, tight braid (Step 1). We divide the braid into two equal parts and turn them in themselves so that they are slightly under tension (Step 2-3). Then we wrap the strands around each other, against the direction of the twirl, until we have reached the tips of our hair (step 4-5).
Be inspired, take some time to practice and don't give up if it doesn't work right away on the first try. Sooner or later you will be able to create the perfect braid. Decorate your hairstyle with flowers, jewellery combs, clips or weave ribbons and pearls. Vary or combine the braids to create your very own statement hairstyle.
Once you're in practice, there are so many more ways to do your hair. For example, with classic variations such as English plait, ear plait or Dutch plait. Or with modern interpretations such as five-strand plait, knot braid, solid plait, Chinese plait, chain braid, cornrows, zipper braid, mermaid plait, infinity plait, bubble braid, pipe braid or waterfall plait.
Finally, a little tip: treat your hair with a rich conditioner before braiding. The additional use of natural oils such as castor oil makes the hair smooth. This makes braiding much easier.
